James Elliott Wood

DIED.
WOOD. -- In Valaparaiso, Ind., on the morning of September 23, 1877, James Elliott Wood, of Ada, Ohio, aged 51 years.

Deceased came to this place about two weeks since from Plymouth, where he has been laboring in the Murphy temperance work, and where God wonderfully blessed his labors in reclaiming many from dissipation and a drunkard's grave. He had just got the work temporarily organized here when he was stricken down with gastric and remittent fever, which soon ran its course and he removed from labor to reward. Thus God buries His workmen, but carries on His work. May He send more laborers into His vine-yard.

The committee here took steps to raise funds to send his remains back to his old home and cover his expenses here to which the Christian people of Valparaiso responded nobly, raising over forty dollars, which more than covered the same. The balance was given to the grief-stricken widow. -- Com.
