William Williams

Died.
WILLIAM WILLIAMS.
William Williams, a pioneer resident of this county, died at 7:30 oclock Monday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George A. Daggey, in Michigan City. His death was caused by grip, followed by pneumonia. Mr. Williams was born in Tennessee on June 2, 1808, and would have been 91 years old at his next birthday. When a young man he came to Wayne county, Indiana, and after a short stay there he came to Porter county in the early days, locating on a farm in Jackson township, near Westville, where he resided until about eight years ago, when he moved to Michigan City with his daughter.

Mr. Williams was married twice, the first time in Wayne county, and his second wife died 34 years ago. He leaves six children, namely, L. P. Williams who has been in the government service in Washington since the war; James Williams, Washington, Kas.; Harrison H. Williams and Clinton Williams, Chesterton, William Williams Coranna, Mich.; and Mrs. G. A. Daggy, of Michigan City. One sister, Mrs. Rachel Stoner, of Valparaiso, and a brother, Elam Williams, of Missouri, survive him.

Mr. Williams was reared a Quaker and resided in what is known as the Quaker settlement. He was a member of no secret or fraternal societies. For twenty-five years he held the position of justice of the peace in Jackson township and was familiarly known by all his neighbors and acquaintances as Squire Williams.

The funeral was held at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning from the Christian church at Westville, Rev. Stewart, a minister of the society of Friends, officiating. The interment took place at the Friends cemetery near Westville.
