Fred Wendt

Obituary.
DIED -- At Michigan City, Ind. On January 2nd, 1890, Fred Wendt, aged 41 years 11 months and 4 days. The deceased had been ill for several years and was confined to his house and bed for over four months prior to his death which was occasioned by dropsy. He was attended by the best of physicians but without avail. His remains were taken to St. John's Lutheran Church at Michigan City where the pastor, Rev. Vollam preached the funeral sermon. From thence to the cemetery, followed by a large procession of relatives and friends where his remains were deposited beside those of two of his children who had preceded him to the better Land. Fred Wendt was the brother-in-law of Henry and Willard Friday, of Westchester and Liberty townships in Porter county, Ind., and leaves a widow and four children to mourn his loss. He was a kind husband, and affectionate father, and a good citizen, loved and respected by the community in which he lived for many years.

"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, for they rest for their labors and their works follow them."

"Bolemn strikes the funeral chime,
Notes of our departing time,
As we journey here below,
Through a pilgrimage of woe.

Mortals now indulge in tear,
For mortality is here.
See how wide her trophies wave,
O'er the slumbers of the grave.

Here another guest we bring,
Seraphs of celestial wing,
To out funeral altar come,
Waft a friend and spirit home.

Lord of all below, above
Fill our hearts with joy and love,
As dissolves our earthly tie,
Take us to thy home on high."
