Albert Volkland

Coroner's Inquest Report.
State of Indiana,
Porter County.

BET IT REMEMBERED, That on the 14th day of November, 1875, information was given to me that the dead body of a man was lying by the railway track in Center township of said county, supposed to have come to his death by casualty, and I thereupon caused a jury to be summoned, sworn, and charged to ascertain, so far as possible, the cause and circumstances of said death. Witnesses, accordingly, were, called and sworn, and testimony taken and reduced to writing, signed by both said jury and myself, and filed in the Clerk's office of said county, whereupon said jury made their verdict that the said "decedent came to his death by a blow on the head by the engine on the No. 1, westward bound, on the P., Ft. W. & C. R. W." Said decedents name was Albert Volkland, he was a German, 32 years old, about six feet high and heavy built, and of dark complexion, wearing dark common laboring clothes. On his person were found a silver ring, one brass ring, a two-foot rule, a box of matches, two bottles of whiskey, and two extra shirts of stripped cotton; also 30 cents in money. No other person being found entitled to take charge of said decedent or his effects, the body was by me committed to undertaker Noel for burial.
WM. C. PARAMORE,
Coroner of Porter County.
