BODY OF A MAN FOUND -- SUPPOSED MURDER!
The skeleton of a man, partly connected and partly scattered, with portions of his clothes, in a torn and scattered condition, was found, and a coroner's inquest held over it, on the 21st instant, 1 1-2 miles east of City West in this county and a little north of the railroad track. From the condition the bones and clothing is supposed that he was probably killed with a knife some nine months or more ago. The following is the report of the jury of inquest on the case:
CORONER'S INQUEST
City West, Oct. 21, 1850.
State of Indiana, Porter County.}
We, the undersigned jurors, being duly empanneled and sworn according to law by Joseph C. Morgan, Coroner of Porter County, to view a skeleton body found lying dead one and a half miles east of City west, north of the railroad track, and after viewing and examining the said skeleton or body so found, we, the said jurors, find that the said person came to his death by some violence unknown to us. There was found, with the same, a part of a broad cloth coat, supposed to be London brown, with large prunelle buttons; a part of a vest, supposed to be worsted striped; a part of a pair of blue black pantalones, broad cloth; a part of a red flannel shirt; one pair of coarse boots, mended with a patch on the right side of the right boot with the flesh side out. -- boots have been taped and nailed on with small carpet tacks. -- socks and feet bones found in the boots; also light red hair.
