Unknown

The difficulty which occurred in the north part of this county, some time last winter, between Mr. John Williamson and a party of Indians, and which unhappily resulted in the death of one of the Indians, has lately drawn forth some severe remarks from the Michigan City News, against Mr. Williamson, which we think were unwarranted. Mr. W was not only acquitted by the Justice before whom the case was brought, but after a full investigation before the Grand Jury, the case was dismissed, and no blame or censure attached to him. It was, furthermore, proven on trial, that the Indians were not furnished with liquor by Williamson, as falsely charged by the "News." Public journals should be guarded in making charges of this character, without a more substantial foundation than mere hear-say.
