Daisy Unknown

A strange incident occurred here a few weeks since, part of which is shrouded in mystery and which is now likely never to be cleared up. Mr. G. Shuey and his wife left their house for a short time, and on their return found a young child on the bed. Near the child was a bundle containing some clothing, a bottle and a note. The note stated that the child had come from a long distance, that it was left in its present quarter as the person leaving it expected it would find there a comfortable home, that it was five months old, and was simply called by the name of Daisy. No trace of who it was that left it, who its parents were or where it came from could be found. Mrs. Shuey cared for it for about a week, and was then about to take it to the foundling asylum at Chicago, when it took sick. Last week it died and was buried here, and the circumstances of its birth and parentage are likely to remain forever hidden.
