Richard O. Taylor

DEATH OF R. O. TAYLOR.

On Wednesday morning, May 7th, at half past one o'clock, Postmaster R. O. Taylor breathed his last. He had been ill more or less for the past two weeks but the sickness which ended in his death began on April 27th, and lasted ten days. Deceased was born in Michigan City on August 18, 1856, and was 32 years, 6 months, and 19 days old at the time of his death. He was one of eight children, born to Wm. And Ann Taylor, and with his parents came to Chesterton in 1860. On reaching manhood's estate, he entered into partnership with his brother, John T. Taylor, dealing in general mechandise, which lasted until the fire of 1888 burned them out. Mr. Taylor was appointed postmaster of Chesterton under the Cleveland administration in August, 1885, which position he held until death relieved him. He was the stay of his aged mother and a sister, death having taken all other members of the family except a brother, John T., who was in Oklahoma. "Dick," as he was familiarly called by his friends, had his faults, but he also had his virtues.

The funeral will be held Saturday at ten o'clock, from the house. It was postponed until that time so that John Taylor, who was in Guthrie, L. T., could reach here. He was wired the death of his brother and not until this (Thursday) morning was an answer received, which stated that he would arrive in Chesterton on the Saturday morning train.
