Hazel Spencer

HAZEL SPENCER VERTZ.
Hazel, third daughter of Ernest C. and Ilda (Stillwell) Spencer, was born in Porter county, near Hobart, on July 14, 1893, and died at her home in Riverside, Mich., April 24, 1916, aged 22 years 9 months and 10 days. When she was one year old her parents moved to Crisman, where they lived until during her thirteenth year. They then moved to Porter, which place has since been their home.

Hazel graduated from the Chesterton high school in 1911, and on May 21st of the same year was married to William Earl Vertz. To them were born three children -- Marjorie, aged 3 years and 8 months; Alice, aged 1 year and 10 months, and an infant son, Gordon Earl. Besides the husband and children she is survived by both parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Two years ago she went with her husband to Riverside, Mich., where they established a very happy home and formed many true friendships, as evidenced by the many kind deeds and floral offerings, among the most beautiful being one from the Pere Marquette dispatcher's office at Grand Rapids.

The remains were brought home April 26 and taken to the home of her parents, and the funeral was held from there to the Mission church the next day at 11 o'clock. The pallbearers were six of her girlhood neighbors and schoolmates, and the flower girls were eight of her former schoolmates.
