Don Theodore Scarborough

OBITUARY.
Don Theodore, son of Charles and Clarissa Scarborough, was born at Bigelow's Mills, Laporte county, Indiana, on November 10, 1865, and died at the home of his father in this city, May 17, 1916, aged 50 years, 6 months and 7 days.

When about 18 years of age he went to Dakota, where he lived for many years. Some years ago, having been attacked by the form of nerve disease known as locomotor ataxia, he came to Clement, Mich., in the hope of being cured by the use of the water there. He seemed to receive some help, but was not cured, so he came, about seven years ago, back to his father's home in Laporte county. Four and a half years ago his father, with the invalid son, came to Valparaiso to live, where they have remained ever since.

His mother and only sister died some years ago, leaving only the father and his two sons. Slowly but certainly Don grew worse. Nearly six months ago he became almost helpless, and at 2:30 in the afternoon of last Wednesday he was released from his suffering and passed away. Of immediate relatives he leaves only his aged father and one brother, Herbert Augustus, of Laporte county.

[Note: Locomotor ataxia is a nervous system disorder resulting from untreated syphilis infection. The disease causes the nerve cells and nerve fibers in the spinal cord to degenerate.]
