Gideon J. Post

Coroner's Inquest Report.
State of Indiana,
Porter County.

BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the 21st day of June, 1877, information was given to me that the body of a dead man had been found in Liberty Township in said state and county, lying in the woods, supposed to have come to his death by casualty, and I thereupon required a jury to be summoned, sworn, and charged to ascertain so far as possible, the cause and circumstances of said death. Witnesses were therefore called and sworn and their material evidence reduced to writing, signed by both said jury and myself and filed in the clerk's office of said county; whereupon said jury made their verdict that the true name of said person is Gideon J. Post; that his age was 52 years; that he was heavy built, sandy complexioned, and about 6 feet high; that he was dressed in common working clothes; and that he came to his death by lightning striking him while standing under a beech tree. No valuable articles were found about his person, and as he and all his friends were destitute, his body was committed to the Liberty township trustee for burial.

Coroner of Porter County.
