Gideon J. Post

Liberty Township Items.
G. J. Post, who has lived in this township a number of years, was out fishing, last Wednesday, in Long & Wheeler's mill-pond, and when the storm came, took shelter under a tree and was killed by lightning. Mr. Post was a solider of the Mexican war, at the close of which he was appointed to a cadet-ship at West Point, but was expelled for some ill-doing. He was in the war of the rebellion, where he nearly lost his eye-sight. He was a poor man, being buried by the township. So far as we know he has been an honest man, and his death leaves his family in a lamentable condition.
