Alfred Mills

Mr. Alfred Mills, a rather old and early citizen of Porter county and of Valparaiso, but for some years past residing in Nebraska, having been for some time sick and needing the attention of his friends, was brought back here some weeks ago by Bert, his son, and has been cared for since then by his family at Allen Smith's, his son-in-law's, and died of dropsy there on Monday evening. He was buried yesterday, his funeral being at the Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. E. S. Riley. Mr. Mills was an ingenious, enterprising and industrious mechanic, and though lacking, possibly, the thoroughness, persistence and discretion necessary to success in business, was an honest, friendly and obliging man. He leaves a wife, three sons and his daugther, Mrs. Lettie Smith, all well known here, and all of high respectability, to mourn their loss, in which their numerous friends extend their sympathy.
