Weep not, gentle mother; Oh, why do you weep?
The child of your love has but fallen asleep
To wake in the regions of heavenly bliss.
Oh, why can you weep for a change such as this?
She dwelt on the earth but a few fleeting days
To gladden your heart with her sweet winning ways
Then God, to secure her from sorrow to come,
Sent a guardian angel to welcome her home.
Oh, look to the skies; your darling is there,
She no longer needs your kind fostering care;
She is waiting for you in the land of the blest,
Weep not, gentle mother, your darling's at rest.
