William Maxwell

DIED.
MAXWELL. -- At the residence of his son, near the village of Tassinong, in this county, on Monday morning, January 30th, 1882, of uremia after a brief illness, Mr. William Maxwell, at the age of 80 years.

The deceased was born at Lisniskay, County Fermanagh, Ireland, on the 25th of December, 1801. About the year 1833 he emigrated to Canada and for a brief period found a home in Montreal. While there he was married to a first wife, who died about 1835 or 1836. The fruit of this union was one son, now residing in Laporte County, Indiana, whither the deceased had removed about 1834 or 1835. He contracted a second marriage with Bridget Sweeney, in 1838, who bore to him six children, of whom four survive. He resided in Laporte County till 1866, and then removed to this county which, with the exception of a short time recently spent in Kansas, has been his place of residence until his death. At the age of fifteen he united with the Methodist Church, in the communion of which he remained during his life. The character he bore in the community was that of a kind hearted man and sincere Christian. Conscious of his own umperfections he rejoiced in the assurance of forgiveness through the propitiating blood of Christ. As he saw approach of death he looked joyfully to meeting with his Savior. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church, in Tassinong, and were conducted by Rev. Robert Beer, the interment taking place at the cemetery, near Mr. Stewart Spencer's.
