Samuel Knode

The remains of Mr. Samuel Knode reached this place Monday from Ashland Neb., where he died last Thursday. Mr. Knode went west about a month ago for the purpose of buying a farm having sold out at this place a short time since. Mr. Knode was one of Porter county's oldest settlers having moved here in 1839. Settling on a farm north of town he lived on the place nearly thirty years. No words of ours can describe the life of Samuel Knode more clearly than a remark made by a life-long friend on hearing of his death, "He was the noblest work of God, an honest man," The funeral took place from the Baptist church last Tuesday morning.
