John Kelley

A Fatal Accident.
At 9:30 Sunday night an accident occurred on the Grand Trunk by which John Kelley, brakeman, on freight train No. 50, lost his life. Just how it happened cannot be ascertained. The train was about a half mile east of Valparaiso when Conductor Newell felt the caboose run over something. He hurried to the back end of the car but could see nothing. The trin by this time was close to the depot, and not finding him, in company with the operator the conductor went back and finally discovered Kelly lying across the track. The coroner was summoned and after an inquest undertaker Arnold took the remains in charge and prepared them for burial.

Jelly was a single man about 24 years old, and had been with the Grand Trunk company for a good time past. His home was in Decatur Michigan where his remains are to be sent.

The part of the road where Kelly lost his life seems to be an unlucky place, for about a year ago, in almost the same place a cousin met his death. -- Vidette.
