Rolla L. Jones

DIED.
JONES. -- July 5, 1881, Rolla L., infant son of Edwin and Eliza A. Jones, aged 4 months, 2 weeks.

BABY ROLLA.
The cradle is empty, our baby is gone;
Gone to the silent tomb.
'Tis only his body, his spirit's not there
For Jesus has called it home.

I walked to the spot where the cradle stood,
Where oft I have laid him to sleep,
And silently gaze into empty space --
And then turn away to weep.

I think of him now in the last long sleep,
From which he will never awake
Until the waves of time roll o'er
Oh, Rolla! My heart will break.

I think when I see his dear little shoes
Of the baby feet they shod.
The angels in heaven are teaching them
To walk'round the throne of God.

I carefully lay his little clothes away;
He will never need them more;
My Rolla is clothed in a robe of light,
Far away on your blissful shore.

On comfort is left, oh! So dear to me
I know, when my time shall come,
Little lips that had never learned to speak
Will smile me a welcome home.

WILDIE FLEMING.
