ROBERT P. JONES DEAD.
Well Known Porter County Citizen and Former Politician Passes Away.

Ex Sheriff Robert P. Jones, one of the county's well known residents, died Sunday night at his home on North Napoleon street, Valparaiso, after an extended illness. The funeral services were held at one o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the residence, conducted by Rev. H. A. Tucker.

Mr. Jones was a native of Ohio, where he was born Oct. 3, 1824. In 1841 he moved to this county with his parents, who settled on a small farm in Liberty township.

In 1842 Robert carried the government mail between Lafayette, Ind., and Joliet, Ills. May 14, 1845, he married Clarissa Dillingham, who survives him.

In 1866 he left the farm and came to Valparaiso. He was elected marshall and served for four years. He was deputy sheriff for two years, and sheriff for two terms. Later he was a member of city council from the Third ward. For many years Mr. Jones took an active part in republican politics of both city and country.

Deceased leaves a wife, herself quite ill, and one daughter, Samantha, wife of J. Harvey Patrick.
