Swan Hjalm

CHESTERTON CHIPS
Swan Hjalm, the man who broke the jail record of Porter county, having laid in the county jail a year and three months, is no more. He died Tuesday morning at the home of his son John, north of town, after a brief illness. The funeral was held Thursday. Deceased was 59 years old and leaves several children. He came to Westchester township 25 years ago, and has lived here ever since. He was a man afflicted with melancholy fits, and when in them, was insane. He was a hard worker, and aside from the time when he attempted to kill his wife and then shot himself, was a law abiding citizen. Poor fellow, his troubles are over at last, and he has the wish he often expressed to the writer, which was that he could only die and be at rest.
