William W. Harper

Wm. Harper of Laporte County, Drowned.

Mr. Wm. Harper, son of Asa Harper, of Coolspring township, was drowned in Mason's millpond last Sunday evening. -- Mr. Harper had been bathing in the pond and was seized with cramps. His three brothers were on the shore, and one of them, Asa, in answer to his call for help plunged in to his assistance, but was unable to rescue him. The body was recovered about two hours and a half after the sad event. He was a young man about 21 years of age and leaves a wife whom he married last December. Both were school teachers and the wife was formerly Miss Thompson, of Laporte. Mr. Harper had been census enumerator for the township. The circumstances attending his death are unusually sad and much sympathy is felt for the afflicted relatives and friends.
