C. A. Hamblett

INSTANTLY KILLED.
C. A. Hamblett, a Brakeman on the Grand Trunk, Killed at his Post of Duty.

A 9 o'clock last night a freight train on the Grand Trunk road going west, stopped at the Crooked-creek tank for water. C. A. Hamblett, a brakeman, was standing on a car towards the rear of the train, and as the train pulled out rapidly the pipe of the water-tank struck him full on the forehead, knocking him from the car into the creek. A brakeman who saw the accident, at once gave the signal to stop, and after a brief search the lifeless remains of the unfortunate man were found in the water. The body was at once brought to this city, and early this morning the coroner held an inquest, the findings of which, however, will not be made known until to morrow.

The deceased was about 40 years of age and lived in Battle-creek, Mich., where he leaves a wife and two children in comfortable circumstances. He also carried a small life insurance policy.

The remains were cared for here and will be shipped to Battle-creek to-day. The features were not marred except by a small mark on the forehead showing where the pipe struck him.

Death was instantaneous and resulted from the neck being broken.
