Graham

PERSONAL MENTION.
Last Saturday forenoon, the ten months old baby of Joseph Graham lost its life in a distressing manner. The family are tenants on the Elmer Wolfe farm in Portage township. Mr. Graham was chopping wood about a mile from the house, and his wife went to take him his dinner, leaving the baby in charge of a seven year old girl. During her absence the house took fire and before help could arrive the baby was burned up and the home in ashes. The little girl was also badly burned about the face. Sparks spread to the grass on the farm of John Brodie and destroyed 50 acres of pasture land and 40 cords of wood. The origin of the fire is not known. Mrs. Graham says that before leaving the house she put the fire out with water, and thinks the little girl played with matches. The family lost everything they had in the world by the fire, and Sunday the neighbors raised a purse of $60 for them.
