Sarah Melinda Freer

DIED.
Sarah Melinda Freer, wife of Jas. C. Freer and daughter of Timothy and Mary Johnson, was born oct. 29, 1859, died August 18, 1881, aged 21 years 9 months, 22 days.

She was ever an obedient and affectionate daughter nurtured in the Christian faith, and was resigned to her early death.

On the 17th of December 1879 she was married to Jas. Freer. They immediately moved to Kansas, near Topeka, where they since lived. One week before she left her home in Kansas to visit her parents; for some months she had been in feeble health, but no one thought she was so near death. Six days she spent with her father and mother, exhilirated with the associations and reminiscences of her old home. Now and then a smile lit up her face, showing that the soul lost none of its power to love and appreciate love from others. But offener their was an expression of intense physical suffering. One Thursday evening life's forces began rapidly to give away and in answer to the anxious inquiry in every face she said, "Yes, I will go if it is Jesus' will." With scarcely time for a single farewell the conflict was over, and she died, "and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom." "We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us."

The funeral was preached at the Methodist church, Westville, Sunday, Agu. 21, by Rev. D. M. Wood. It was largely attended, and there was an expression of universal sympathy for the bereaved. Let us be ready to meet death at its coming, for we know not the day nor the hour; but we shall all go.
