Jane Ann Flint

NICHOLS. -- Mrs. Jane Ann, wife of Alfred Nichols, of Valparaiso, Ind., was bornin Wyoming county, N. Y., Feb. 19, 1831; came to Indiana when a small girl. She united with the M. E. church in her 17th year. She was married to her now bereaved husband in Crown Point Nov. 4, 1852. For several years past she has been a resident of this place. For the past 2 years her health has been declining, baffling the skill of her physician, during which time she was a great sufferer. In August she went to visit her friends in Hebron and vicinity hoping it would be the means of partially restoring her health, and if not, as she said, to die with them. In a few weeks her brother Edward Flint, at whose house she was stopping, died very suddenly, causing such a shock to her nervous system that she sank under it, and grew worse from that time. After my return from conference, with my wife, I visited her, and found her hopeful and looking forward to a speedy dissolution, which took place at her sister's October 23, 1883. She was a great lover of the church, and contributed willingly and liberally according to her ability, yet she was retiring. In her last days she was visited by her pastor, Rev. M. F. Stright, who says for several days "she was in the valley of the shadow of death." Dying in the arms of her husband and trusting in the merits of Jesus, she asked her friends to sing "Jesus, lover of my soul;" but when they could not start the tune she raised her voice and began it, and assisted in singing the verse, and said "I see the angels coming, and I must go."
