Mary Fleming

From the Herald.]
HESSER. -- At the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. E. Curtis, in Union Township, Porter County, Indiana, May 10, 1882, Mrs. Mary Hesser, aged 78 years, 6 months, and 8 days.

Mary Fleming Hesser was born in Virginia, November 2, 1803. In early girlhood she removed with her parents to Jefferson County, Ohio. In 1829 she was married to Peter Hesser, whom she survived two years. In the autumn of 1852 she removed to Porter County, Indiana, of which place she had since been a resident till the time of her death.

Mrs. Hesser lived a long and useful life, and when her days were numbered, passed quietly into eternity, as the day sinks gradually into the gloom of night. She lived to see three generations; and children, grand-children and great-grand-children were assembled around her grave. She lived long and filled well her place, and finally has passed away, "as one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him, and lies down to pleasant dreams." The funeral took place on Thursday, May 11, from the residence of Mr. Curtis. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. E. S. Riley, of Valparaiso, and after the conclusion of the burial services a large concourse of relatives and friends followed the body to the Fleming grave-yard, where, in the narrow home that awaits us all, it was laid in its last repose.
