Sarah Darnell

DIED.
BELL. -- At the residence of her son William Bell, in Washington township, Tuesday, July 12, 1881, Mrs. Sarah Bell, aged 80 years, 2 months, 3 days.

Sarah Darnell was born in Holmes county, O., May 9, 1801. She was married to Reason Bell, at the same place, Aug. 28, 1819. In July 1832, they moved to Laporte county, Indiana, and in April 1833, removed to this county, where they have spent the remainder of their days. Twelve children were born unto them, the eldest of whom, Reason Bell, Jr., was the first white child born in Porter county and yet remains a prominent citizen. Three children died in infancy, two others at a more mature age, and seven survive to mourn the loss of their aged and devoted mother. The only serious illness of her life was that which ended with her death, and was of about six weeks duration. Until recently compelled by feebleness to abandon her own home, she has since the death of her husband persisted in keeping house and living by herself. Thus is noted the departure of a brave and noble woman. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. Beer in Luther school-house and her remains were interred beside the resting place of her husband who preceded her.
