James Cotten

Hebron Items.
John France and James Cotton have lately been camped on Grape Island for the purpose of hunting. Week before last France went to where they had camped in the fall and early part of winter for a boat. In two days he returned and foundtheir shanty burned with Cotten in it, so badly burned that no person could have recognized him. Some rumors are that his skull was broken; others, that only the skin was burned as by something falling on it. Some supposed he was murdered, while others think the shanty caught fire accidently and that he smothered the flames. It is not known whether he had any money or not. He was about 21 years old. His folks live in White county, near Remington.
