Almer J. Corry

OBITUARY.
CORRY. -- Died, of bilious diarrhoes, at the residence of his son-in-law, Dr. Green, in Chesterton, Porter county, Ind., July 4, 1880, Almer J. Corry, aged 76 years.

Father Corry was born in Onondaga county, N. Y., in 1804. In 1919, he, with his parents, emigrated to this state and setttled in Rush county. In 1828 he came to Laporte county and settled where Michigan City now is, so one more of Laporte's pioneers has passed away. Father Corry left Michigan City in 1855 and, coming into Porter county, he lived upon a farm of his own not far from Wheeler for some time. After he began to feel the weight of years, he sold his farm and moved into Wheeler, where he has left some desirable property. A little more than a year ago his wife was called to her reward, and Father C. rented his property in Wheeler and made his home with the doctor's family.

He was converted and joined the M. E. church at Wheeler while the Rev. John Harrison (who married his niece) was in charge of that work, and ever after lived a very exemplary Christian life. In the past year, many times in class he has said he was ready and only waiting for the Master to call him home, that he might see his Saviour and his loved ones who were already gone. It is but just to say he lived a pious life, in all Godliness and honesty, therefore ripe and ready to be gathered home.

The near relatives who mourn his loss are these: The doctor and his wife (who has herself been a great sufferer for years), a grand-son and a grand-daughter, children of Dr. Green and wife, also one daughter who now resides in Michigan City, and a large circle of friends. But, thank God, his rest is glorious. His body was buried beside that of his wife, at Wheeler July 6, 1880.
