Edward Cook

DIED.
COOK. -- At his residence in this city, Sunday morning, Nov. 18, 1877, Mr. Edward Cook, of dropsy, aged 43 years, 9 months and 9 days.

EDWARD COOK was born Feb. 9, 1834, in Ellington, Chautauqua county, New York, where he resided with his father's family until March, 1854, when he came with them to this county, of which he remained a citizen until his death. He was married to Anna Jane Kee May 13, 1863, who, since then, has shared his joys and sorrows. He has been for many years a prominent business man and our leading carriage manufacturer, and at the time of his death was a member of the Valparaiso city council. The funeral ceremony was conducted by Rev. J. T. Sunderland (Unitarian), of Chicago, at the family residence, at 2 P. M. Monday, and was very simple and appropriate. Mr. Cook was a very calm, but decisive, man. He was the same one day as another; he lived and died a good man. He was zealous, energetic, upright, and conscientious, and for such, according to the doctrine held forth by Mr. Sunderland, there are glorious promises. Many words of encouragement were uttered and some very excellent ideas were suggested, which, however, were heard by comparatively few, as the house was filled in all parts, and many could not hear distinctly at all. The remains were followed by a large number of friends to Maple Cemetery, where they were laid in their last resting place. The bereaved widow and fatherless boy have the earnest sympathy of the entire community.
