Charles Chester

Charles Chester.

C left the thread that united the soul to the clay,
H ow sudden the breath ceased, forbidden to stay,
A s an angel to guide, hovered over the way,
R ising over the flood, where the billows were heard,
L ightly skirt'g the rocks, when the voice of the Lord
E choed through the clear azure, "Come hither to me,"
S ecure from all peril -- from danger set free.

C ome into the home-land, where I have prepared
H eavenly manna to feed those for whom I have cared.
E yes of God look not merely on outward array
S ince the ophan and stranger He meets on the way.
T o shield, or restrain, if unwisely they stray,
E nding all by the death note -- earth's latest adieu.
R eaching -- then changing to harmonies new.

A FRIEND.
