Anna Cheney

CHESTERTON CHIPS.
DIED: -- At her home in Chesterton, June 30th, 1897, Mrs. Anna Weaver Cheney, wife of Charles C. Cheney.

The deceased was born near Valparaiso, Ind., May 3rd, 1865, and was one of six children, born of the union of Mr. and Mrs. Z. Weaver, well-known residents of Porter County. On Dec. 17, 1881, she was united in marriage to Charles C. Cheney, and up to the time of her death proved herself a loving wife. She was the mother of six children, upon whom she bestowed all the tendernous and kindness of a true and affectionate parent.

At the early age of twelve years, she identified herself with the followers of Christ, and from that time until Death called her she lived an exemplary life, ministering to the sick and needy and doing whatever of good her hands found to do. Her true character was shown by the patience and fortitude with which she bore the intense pain of her fatal illness, which extended through a period of six weeks.

During this prolonged affliciton, her bible was her constant companion, and in its teachings she found the strength which enabled her to triumph over her suffering, as well as a spirit of resignation, which, when she contemplate the approach of death, helped her to say: "Thy will O Lord, not mine be done."

Throughout her entire illness she was selicitious for the welfare of her family, and as it became apparent that death was approaching she called her husband and children to her bedside and expressed her wishes as to their future, then, presenting both her husband and eldest child with bibles she bade them all an affectionate farwell. She lingered for some few days then fell asleep to awake in the presence of her God.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church at Chesterton, of which the deceased has been a consistent member since 1891, Rev. Van Arsdal, of New Carlisle, officiating.
