NICKEL PLATE STRIKES AUTOMOBILE
One Man Killed and Another May Die as Result of Their Auto Being Hit by Passenger Train.
VICTIM WAS TO BLAME
(From Friday's Daily)

Guy Chapel was killed and his brother, Glen Chapel, sustained injuries that may cause death, when their automobile was struck near Ober last night by Nickel Plate westbound passenger number 3, due here at 7:40. By order of the coroner the bodies were brought to Knox on the same train. The father of the victims, who came to the depot, was prostrated with grief and had to be carried away. The young men were on the way to Ober, where their sister is a teacher. The pilot of the engine was broken by the impact and the train was delayed over an hour, or until another locomotive could be procured to take the train on to Chicago.

According to the survivor of the tragedy, they were nearing the crossing when Glen observed the train approaching. "There is that train," he cautioned his brother; "we had better wait."

"We'll just give her a little more juice and can make it.," was the reply, according to the report, and with his foot on the accelerator, Guy drove into the way of the locomotive.

The front of the automobile was struck with the full force of the trains velocity, and a moment later Guy Chapel was in eternity; his brother was bruised and bleeding, and the machine was a pile of debris.

The Chapel brothers had been driving a Ford, but this was out of order, so, for the trip, they had borrowed a Buick of a neighbor.
