G. M. Boyd

A Good Man Dies.
Rev. G. M. Boyd, D. D., died yesterday afternoon at 8:20 at his residence, corner of Chicago and Locust streets, the immediate cause of death being apoplexy. He had been gradually losing strength for some time, but when the final stroke came it was a great shock to his mahy friends. He attended class meeting at the M. E. church at 9 o'clock and then went to the funeral of Geo. Buel, who was buried from the Presbyterian church 10:30, where the deceased assisted in the services and concluded them at the graveyard, after which he returned to his home and in a few moments fell under the dreaded stroke. He lingered unconscious about two hours, with every possible attention shown him that loving hearts and patient hands could bestow.

He was a man of rare genial qualities, quiet, unobstrusive, gentlemanly, Christian, who made friends wherever he went and who always retained that friendship during a long series of years.

He had been a minister of the Methodist Episcopal church for more than fifty years, and had twice served the M. E. church of this city. He has probably married, buried, and baptized more persons than any minister of the county, and was a man with hosts of friends in church, school and community.

He was a Knights Templar Mason and Odd Fellow, both of which orders will attend the funeral services, which will be held in the M. E. church, probably on Thursday morning, at which time his children from Denver, Colorado, and other distant points will reach this city.

Rev. Boyd and Dr. John L. Smith are the oldest members of the Northwest Indiana Conference, and the latter most likely will preach the funeral sermon, and Rev. R. S. Martin, his pastor and friend, will have charge of the services. Rev. Boyd was 76 years old.
