Franklin Blake

LAKE STATION, Ind., April 12. -- Franklin Blake, a resident of Portage township for fifty-five years, died at his residence on Wednesday, the 8th inst., of inflammation of the bowels and la grippe. He was born in Jackson Co., Ohio, Jan. 14th, 1828, and was a little past 63 years old. He was married to Lucy Ann Cleveland in Nov. 1848, who with six grown children survive him. He also leaves about $15,000 worth of property and no debts. Perry and Judd, of this county, and Vinton Blake, of Elk Falls, Kan., are the only brothers left, in fact the only members of the old family. The came here from Ohio at an early day, when Indians were as plenty as cattle are now, enduring many hardships in trying to get them a home, which all have done and a little more. Franklin has been failing for many years and felt satisfied that he would not live, but his family could not give him up until the very last.
