Franklin H. Beckwith

HET MET WITH A FATAL FALL.
F. H. Beckwith Killed by the Upsetting of a Buggy on a Country Road.

Our community was startled by reading the following in to-day's Chicago Herald:

"Franklin H. Beckwith, son-in-law of S. H. Kerfoot, the real estate man, and traveling salesman for H. C. & C. Durrand, left Saugatuck, Mich., early Tuesday evening for New Richmond. With a companion, Mr. Beckwith was driving through a cut, when a runaway team came dashing toward them. The driver dought to pull his horse to the side in order to give the frightened animals the right of way. This was done as the buggy was passing over a culvert which spans a deep ditch. A wheel missed the culvert and Mr. Beckwith was thrown to the ground below. The buggy and horse came tumbling upon him, and he died almost instantly from his injuries. His companion was not badly hurt. Mr. Beckwith leaves a wife. The remains were brought to the city yesterday, and the funeral services will take place from S. H. Kerfoof's residence, 135 Rush street, to-day at 2:30 o'clock."

Frank Beckwith was well-known in this community, having sold goods to our merchants for the past twenty years. He was respected, and had the confidence of the people of our town. The shocking news of his tragic death was received on the streets this morning by people who knew him, with keen regret. His sorrowing wife has the heartfelt sympathy of our people.
