Charles Beach

CHESTERTON CHIPS.
The death of Charley Beach by drowning in the Lake in plain sight of several friends in less than five feet of water, and but a short distance from shore, illustrates again the uncertainty of life. The lake was rough, the waves being four and five feet high. Young Beach was suddenly taken with cramps caused by going into the cold water soon after eating a hearty meal. It was seen from shore that he was drowning, but of all those spectators, not one had presence of mind enough to dash into the Lake and save the boy. It seems incredible that a life could be lost under the circumstances but one was, and it almost convinces one that there is an appointed time and way for man to die, and when that time comes, death is always on hand to claim his victim.
