John C. Ball

This place was shocked last Saturday p. m. with the announcement of the sudden death of Mr. John C. Ball, who has within the knowledge of comparatively few been some months last past feeble and declining. His disease was a consumption of the bowels. He was buried on Monday in the city cemetery, the funeral being held at the family residence. Mr. Ball was born in Warren Co., Ohio, July 2d, 1815; he came to Laporte in 1835, and to Valparaiso when the town was first laid-out in 1836. He first was store clerk for his uncle, afterward was county clerk and county treasurer. He was a faithful and efficient business man in every station, and his memory will be mournfully sweet to his wife, children and familiar friends.
