Sgt. Raynes Loses Life

Another Valparaiso boy has given his life for his country and has been enshrined on the honor roll of heroic dead.

Gunnery Sgt. William A. Raynes of the United States Marine Corps, and son of Mrs. Elizabeth Watts, 402 Brown street, was killed in action on Okinawa on May 25 last, according to a telegram received by his mother Tuesday.

Sgt. Raynes was 23 years of age on May 4 last. He joined the marines on July 13, 1942. He had been in the Pacific area for 28 months and was scheduled to return to Valparaiso for a visit in a short time.
