Liberty Hills GI Killed In Action

Sgt. Ronald E. Dills, 21, Liberty Hills, was killed in action Thursday near Chu Lai, Vietnam, when a mine detonated, the Defense Department announced Monday. He was in Company B, 5-46, 198th L.I.B.

Born in Plymouth, Aug. 23, 1948, he was the son of Floyd R. and Gretchen (McLain) Dills. He was graduated in 1967 from Liberty High school, and prior to entering the service was employed by Ford Motor company's Chicago assembly plant.

He entered the armed forces Jan. 9, 1969 and completed basic training at Fort Bragg, N. C. He left for Vietnam last Dec. 24.

Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, James Richard, of Clarinda, Iowa, and Randall, at home; and three sisters, Barbara, Rachel and Susan, all at home.

A memorial service will be held at Valparaiso's Assembly of God church which he attended.

Van Gilder Funeral home, Plymouth, is in charge of arrangements which are still incomplete.

SGT. DILLS RITES

Memorial services for Sgt. Ronald E. Dills, 21, Liberty Hills, who was killed May 7 in Vietnam action near Chu Lai, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Assembly of God church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (EDT) Tuesday at Van Gilder Funeral home, 300 West Madison, Plymouth. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 7 p.m. (EDT) and from Monday noon until time of services

WE WANT TO THANK each and every one of our friends, neighbors and relatives who through their thoughtfulness did so much for us. Thanks for your prayers, food, cards, flowers and all you gave and did for us during the days of sorrow and grief over the loss of our son and brothers, Sgt. Ronald Eugene Dills, who was killed in action in Vietnam May 7, 1970. Thanks to Rev. Washler and Rev. Debbins for the funeral services at the Valparaiso church Sunday, May 7, 1970. A special thanks to Rev. Knisely of the Missionary Baptist Church of Portage for his message at the memorial services. Rev. Knisely's brother was with Ronald in Vietnam.
