The Smith Cemetery is located at 300 West, south of 100 South; Indiana State
Route 2 is located just west of the cemetery [northeast quarter of the northeast
quarter of Section 8]. The 1876, 1895, 1906, and 1921 plat maps for Porter
Township indicate that John W. Smith owned the land on which the cemetery is
located, though no cemetery is marked on these plat maps at this site.
According to the cemetery index for Porter Township published by the Northwest
Indiana Genealogical Society, "Two girls by the name of Smith were buried in the
orchard near State Rd. 2."
Note that there is another Smith Cemetery in Boone Township, south of Porter
Township.
