Remark: This image shows the depot for the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad in Wheeler, Indiana. This railroad was more commonly referred to as the Nickel Plate Road and abbreviated N.Y.C. & St. L., as shown on the train bulletin in this image. The date written on the bulletin is July 2, but no indication of a year is provided with it. In 1931, the New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad petitioned the Indiana Public Service Commission to cease operations at Wheeler. At that time, the railroad had no livestock pens, oil station, or passenger agency in Wheeler; however, there was a coal yard, storage yard, station track, and a train shed. The railroad's petition was granted and the station seen here ceased operation and services transferred to Hobart, located west of Wheeler in Lake County, Indiana.
