Valparaiso, Indiana

Date: 1914
Source Type: Postcard
Publisher, Printer, Photographer: AZO
Postmark: September 9, 1914, Valparaiso, Indiana
Collection: Steven R. Shook
Remark: This photograph was taken during the 1914 Labor Day parade in Valparaiso. On the reverse of this postcard is written the following: "This is the cutters on parade in town here." One of the men is carrying a banner below the WELCOME sign that says "We EAT WAR OR NO WAR." It is believed that the cutters mentioned on the reverse of this postcard refer to meat cutters given the clothing worn and the message on the banner. The building shown in the image is McMahon Brothers, retailers of flour, feed, hay, and grain.
