Remark: The original wood frame Catholic church was completely destroyed by a tornado on May 26, 1917, and the congregation soon rebuilt an "underground church" or "basement church," as can be seen on the right side of this image. During this rebuilding, a church rectory, seen here on the left of this image, was built in the adjacent lot. In 1926, Father Saltzer built the present church over the old basement church.
