Historical Images of Porter County



The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Chesterton, Indiana. Bailly Homstead, established in 1821 as a trading post and home for the early pioneer fur trader and trapper, Joseph Bailly de Messein. A Potawatomi Indian village, ancient Indian Mounds, mineral springs, and salt licks were nearby in an area rich in fur bearing animals.
